Call for Abstracts - Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Science Conference

The Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Science Conference , March 1-3 at Callaway Resort and Gardens, brings together cross-disciplinary researchers from across the southeast region to present the best new health-related preclinical, clinical, implementation, and population-based research and build collaborative relationships. Georgia CTSA Research Education Faculty Member Recognized as Young Leader in Diabetes Epidemiology

The International Diabetes Epidemiology Group (IDEG) has announced that Jessica Harding, PhD, will be the 2022 recipient of the Harry Keen Memorial Award, which recognizes young leaders in diabetes epidemiology. Dr. Harding will travel to IDEG’s 2022 meeting in Portugal, December 2-5, to accept the award and present an honorary lecture. Dr. Harding's rising status as an early-stage investigator contributed to her visibility for the award, and was exemplified by her recent receipt of the 2022 Emory Health Services Research Center Pilot Grant to study gender disparities in access to transplants.

Coming Soon: NIH RADx® Tech for Maternal Health Challenge – Due November 1

The National Institutes of Health will soon launch the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics Technology (RADx® Tech) for Maternal Health Challenge, a competition offering up to $8 million in cash prizes to accelerate the development of technologies to improve maternal health outcomes for those who live in areas lacking access to maternity care. The challenge will prioritize home-based or point-of-care diagnostic devices, wearables, and other remote sensing technologies to extend care and improve health outcomes during the postpartum period. The challenge will launch on September 1, 2022.

American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant Program – LOIs due September 9

The goal of the ACS IRG award is to provide the institution with funds to support the early development of junior faculty in their independent cancer research careers. The Winship ACS-IRG pilot grant program is currently soliciting innovative pilot projects in clinical, basic, or translational cancer-related research that offers significant potential for reducing the incidence, mortality, and morbidity of cancer and/or improving the quality of life.

The CDC-funded Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory (IPRCE) is seeking proposals for 4 core research projects that would be funded through its 5-year competitive renewal. I3 Venture Research Awards – Due October 4

Emory SOM is soliciting innovative research proposals to catalyze promising early-stage concepts with commercial potential that do not yet qualify for funding from external sources. Grants will be considered for proposals from Emory faculty with potential to shape, de-risk, or scale up a potential new drug or technology in medicine (diagnostic, therapeutic, device or software) in less than one year. If successful, the proposal would ready the project for the next stage of translation (not necessarily to market readiness). Phlebotomy 101 Training – November 17 & 18

GCRCs offer 13.8 contact hours for completing Phlebotomy 101 Training, an introductory training to venipuncture. The two-day classroom and clinical hands-on training teaches venipuncture. This course is offered to research coordinators and led by GCRC nurses. Open to Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and Georgia CTSA employees at MSM and UGA. Emory SOM Innovation Forum

Emory SOM is planning an innovation forum for the fall with the goal of creating a culture of open cross-pollination that could lead to exciting collaborations and innovations. The initial pilot forum will focus on the topic of medical devices and include speakers from Emory and Georgia Tech. Guest speakers from Emory SOM will present an unmet medical need and/or clinical challenge and a Georgia Tech speaker will share an emerging technology with the potential for clinical application. Presentations will be followed by a discussion session in which ideas are shared and collaborative partnerships can be developed. RADx COVID-19 Research Testing Site at Executive Park

Emory, Georgia Tech, and Children’s are working with NIH’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program to evaluate and bring more COVID tests to market and recently opened a new COVID testing site at 59 Executive Park South NE.
