Congratulations to Georgia CTSA Pilot Grants Director Jeff M. Sands, MD, winner of the 2022 Homer W. Smith Award from the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). Dr. Sands is Professor of Medicine and Physiology, and Director of the Division of Renal Medicine, Department of Medicine, Emory University. The Homer W. Smith Award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions which fundamentally affect the science of nephrology, broadly defined, but not limited to, the pathobiology, cellular and molecular mechanisms and genetic influences on the functions and diseases of the kidney.

Phlebotomy 101 Training - July 28 & 29

GCRCs now offer 13.8 contact hours for completing Phlebotomy 101 Training, an introductory training to venipuncture. The two-day classroom and clinical hands-on training teaches venipuncture. This course is offered to research coordinators and led by GCRC nurses. Open to Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and Georgia CTSA employees at MSM and UGA. The next training is July 28-29. Free Online Trainings for Clinical Research Professionals

Georgia CTSA and the University of Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI) have created an Online Course Catalog with a free course and program offerings available to clinical research professionals. Participants earn a certificate or badge with contact hours (continuing education – CE) from an accredited provider upon completion of a course or a program (series of courses). Contact hours can be used to meet requirements for CRP certification renewal. The newest program, “Innovation to Translation: Role of Genomics in Medical Product Development,” is now available online. Select a course/program that interests you and click on the blue “Enroll” button.

Fundamentals of Epidemiology Course - August 29 to December 5

Faculty and postdocs are welcome to enroll in a fall semester course that is part of the curriculum in the Certificate Program in Translational Research at the Laney Graduate School. Tuition awards are not available, but faculty and postdocs at Emory may be eligible for the Emory Courtesy Scholarship if employed for at least one year. This is a semester-long course that meets on Mondays from 3:10 PM -5:00 PM from August 29 until December 5, 2022. For more information and instructions on how to enroll, contact Rachel Hardison .

Course in Advanced Data Management in R - August 30 to December 6

Faculty and postdocs are welcome to enroll in a fall semester course that is part of the curriculum in the Master of Science in Clinical Research degree program at the Laney Graduate School. Tuition awards are not available, but Emory faculty and postdocs may be eligible for the Emory Courtesy Scholarship which would cover tuition for the course. This is a semester-long course that meets on Tuesdays, from 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM from August 30 until December 6, 2022. What's the answer to your "I wish I had..." or, "What if we could...?" when it comes to your ideas for enhancing patient care through novel medical device technology? What if you could partner alongside and advise a Georgia Tech Biomedical Engineering (BME) team to investigate and design a patentable solution for that idea in just 16 weeks? BME Capstone is seeking project proposals for the Fall 2022 semester. Capstone teams work over 500 hours per project to ideate, design, and prototype real solutions that address unmet clinical needs.
