Congratulations to Priscilla Pemu, MD, MSCR, the 2022 recipient of the Association of Black Cardiologists’ Dr. Walter M. Booker Sr. Health Promotion Award. This award recognizes innovative programs designed to prevent and reduce cardiovascular diseases in African Americans. Dr. Pemu was recognized for her notable achievements as a clinician, scientist, educator, advocate for workforce diversity, and more. * Botulinum Toxin Potency Assay using Tissue Chips (BoT PATCh) – Due Dates Vary

This FOA provides support using the STTR and SBIR cooperative agreement mechanisms for the development, regulatory qualification and commercialization of alternative approaches methods (NAMs) that specifically utilizes the neuromuscular junction Tissue Chips (TC) platforms that will replace the LD50 assay (mouse lethality bioassay (MLB) as a potency assay for botulinum toxin. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) aims to speed scientific solutions to stem the national opioid public health crisis by supporting the development of therapies and technologies directed at enhanced pain management through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program . This FOA is focused on applications directed at improving pain treatment, including the development of new non-addictive medications and devices and objective pain measurement. NIH RADx® Tech for Maternal Health Challenge – Due November 1

The National Institutes of Health will soon launch the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics Technology (RADx® Tech) for Maternal Health Challenge, a competition offering up to $8 million in cash prizes to accelerate the development of technologies to improve maternal health outcomes for those who live in areas lacking access to maternity care. The challenge will prioritize home-based or point-of-care diagnostic devices, wearables, and other remote sensing technologies to extend care and improve health outcomes during the postpartum period.

Phlebotomy 101 – November 17 & 18

GCRCs offer 13.8 contact hours for completing Phlebotomy 101 Training, an introductory training to venipuncture. The two-day classroom and clinical hands-on training teaches venipuncture. This course is offered to research coordinators and led by GCRC nurses. Open to Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and Georgia CTSA employees at MSM and UGA. The PROMISE Study

The PROMISE Study is part of a national effort, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Diversity Program Consortium to identify best mentoring practices for scientists underrepresented (UR) in biomedical research. This research study will examine a peer group mentoring approach to enhance scholarly output and academic advancement of participants. Participants will have two-hour meetings twice per month for nine months. Sessions are focused on professional development and facilitated by senior UR biomedical researchers.
